The most common questions that parents ask us about Al-Ikhlaas School.

What time does school start and finish and what is the timetable during the day?

We start at 8:45am and finish at 2:00pm. It is important to be on time. The nursery morning is from 9.00am to 11:30am and the afternoon is from 1:00pm to 3.30pm. Generally, we do English and Maths in the mornings and other lessons in the afternoons.

What happens if my child is ill or late?

Children who are ill need to stay at home. You must write, phone or tell us why your child has missed school. If your child is late, please come to the school office. If you are delayed collecting your child at the end of the day please phone us to let us know what is happening.

What if my child needs medicine in school?

We only give medicine at lunchtime if a doctor has prescribed four doses each day and you have signed a form. If your child needs regular medication, e.g. for asthma, please talk to the Head Teacher. Please tell us about medical conditions that affect your child’s health so that we can give special care.

Can my child be taken on holiday during term time?

Please do not take your holiday in term time. If you need to make an exceptional arrangement, you must speak to the Head Teacher and complete a holiday request form. Only two weeks can be allowed in any one school year. If your child does not return to school within a maximum of six weeks, you may lose their place.

What should my child wear to school?

We have no school uniform, children must dress sensibly. ALL clothing should be marked. For safety reasons, jewellery is not allowed. Children with pierced ears can wear small studs only. Inexpensive watches can be worn if wished.

Can my child have a school dinner?

No - Children must bring in a packed lunch.

What can my child take for packed lunch?

Please give children a healthy and balanced meal with a drink but no sweets or chocolate bars. No glass and no fizzy drinks please. Packed lunches should be in a container clearly marked with your child’s name.

Will my child be expected to do homework?

Children will take home a book every day which they will be expected to read. Other activities will be sent home regularly.

What can my child take into school?

Children should not take money or personal property into school unless requested to do so by the teacher.

Are there any rules my child will be expected to follow?

Everyone at Al-Ikhlaas is expected to follow the School Rules that are on show around the school. We have rules to make sure everyone is safe, happy and learning to the best of their ability. We will not accept behaviour that hurts or offends others.

Will my child go on any organised trips?

Children go on regular trips. We ask parents to make a contribution towards the costs of trips but no child will be left out because they cannot pay.

How can I find out about my child’s progress at school?

We will send you a report every July. You will also have a meeting with the teacher at regular Parents’ Evenings. You can also make an appointment at any time if you have any concerns.
